Winters High School seniors Zack Higgins and Tess Hyer were named the 2010-11 Winters High School Best All Around male and
female athletes, respectively.
Higgins, a standout athlete in both football and baseball, has been a member of the varsity team for three years in football and four years in baseball.
Hyer, a three-sport standout, has been playing at the varsity level in swimming, basketball and softball all four years of high school.
Block W
Trevor Ray, a freshman on the Winters High School JV baseball team, received the Block W Coaches Award, presented by coach Daniel Ward.
“Trevor more than deserves this award,” Ward said. “He comes to practice and works hard every day. He is a great example of what a high school athlete should be and it was a pleasure coaching him.”
On the season, Ray had a .520 batting
average, scored 25 runs, had 16 RBI, hit three triples, a home run and a double and had 22 stolen bases.
Iron Warrior
Jason Pate was named this week’s Iron Warrior by Ward, who also serves as the football coach. Each week during the summer workouts, Ward chooses a player that stands out in the weight room and on the practice field.
“Jason has been working hard since we had our banquet last year,” Ward said. “He hasn’t missed a workout and when he is here he works as hard, or harder than anyone.”
