September 5, 1968 Herman Mermod, 77, a native of Switzerland and a long time resident of Winters, died last night at the Davis Community Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending. A range fire that covered 1100 acres near the Monticello Dam was brought under control Saturday by a weary crew of 290 fire fighters. A decision on the request of the U.S. Post Office department to locate a building at First and Russell streets has been postponed until September 11 by the Winters Planning Commission. Joe Martinez, a Winters High School graduate and past president of the California state Chapter of the Future Farmers of America, will speak at a joint meeting of the Winters Lions Club and the Winters District Chamber of Commerce, to be held Monday night at Sam’s Club. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Molina are the parents of a son, Gary Montgomery Molina, born August 19, 1968 in the Woodland Memorial Hospital. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Yolo Briggs and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Molina. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Lowrie are the parents of a son, Michael Stephen, born August 30, in the Davis Community Hospital. He is the fifth great grandson of Mrs. Dorothy Lowrie. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Invernon attended a concert in Lakeside Park, Oakland, on Monday, when their son, Louis, a clarinetist, played with the Oakland Municipal Band. Miss Shelley Williams, who spent the summer working at the Perkins Riding Stables at Tahoe, returned home on Monday in time to enter school in Sacramento. ]]>
