June 20, 1968 Klyne G. Beaumont, Sacramento structural engineer, reported to Winters Joint Unified board of trustees on Monday evening that the Union School did not meet Field Act requirements for earthquake safety.

Edward L. Drews appeared before the city council Tuesday evening to discuss converting the Winters Hotel into a rooming house. The council noted a county sanitation department study that said considerable work would be required for a building to pass inspection

Julianna Heil, a senior at U.C. Davis, majoring in food science, has been awarded a Dairy Industries Association scholarship, and Vivienne Anne Willis, a senior animal physiology major, has received a Henry A. Jastro scholarship.

George Childress, of Arroyo Grande, former superintendent of schools in Winters, has accepted a position as superintendent of the Ramona Unified School District in San Diego County.

Captain and Mrs. Lewis E. O’Brien of El Segundo, California, are the parents of a son, Terrence Kevin, born April 27, 1968. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John B. O’Brien, of Winters.

Aviation Structural Mechanic Airman William M. Soto, USN, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jose Soto, of Winters, is serving as a member of Helicopter Attack Light Squadron Three at Vung Tau, Vietnam.

Mrs. Robert Bishop and her father, Jess Hembree of El Reno, Oklahoma, flew to Los Angeles to visit the former’s brother, Jess Hembree, Jr., at Lan Puente, for the weekend.
