August 7, 1953 Captain Charles E. Graf, who for the past several months has been stationed near New York City, accompanied by Mrs. Graf and their children, left early in the week for California. They are driving out. I Elberta peaches from the Winters district started moving this week to four canneries. An estimated 2500 tons are available from the district, and a price of $50 a ton is being offered. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Haywood, of Dayton, Ohio on June 16, a boy, who has been named Harold Eugene Haywood. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Martin have returned to their home in the Apricot district after a vacation of one month spent at their summer home at Horse Creek. Little Miss Kathleen Julia Diaz was hostess to a group of young friends at a party given Friday afternoon at the Nut Tree to celebrate her fourth birthday. Manager Joe Diaz of the Winters Merchants Baseball team was honored at the Chamber of Commerce meeting Monday night at the Christian Church. Mrs. Eleanor Miller of Winters was one of 70 graduates of Sacramento State College at the close of summer school, and received a bachelor of arts degree last Friday evening. Welland Naismith, of Esparto, Yolo County civil defense chairman, has announced the appointment of E. E. Zimmerman of Winters as chairman of the ground observation posts. A family reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hansel Sunday, July 25, with 30 members of the family present. Sale of the palatial home and 90 acres of land in the John Overhouse estate has been approved in Yolo Superior Court to Mr. and Mrs. F.L.Parish of Patterson for $65,000. ]]>
