July 10, 1953 James L. McClish, clerk of the Winters Joints Union High School District for the past several years, was elected president of the board at its regular meeting Monday night. Mrs. Joe Diaz, who as district deputy president of the Rebekah lodge is making as her official project the development of the Winters city park. Officers from the U. S. Immigration Service, in a raid in the Winters area early Wednesday morning, picked up 48 Mexicans illegally in this country. Dave Baxter and Wayne Sharp have moved their real estate office from Allen Doll’s office to the Chandler Furniture Stre where a partition has been constructed, separating the office from the store. Funeral services will be held this morning in the First Christian Church for Jesse R. Ruggles, 69, who died in Woodland Wednesday afternoon. Mr. George Conard will take his vacation from his duties at the post office next week, and plans to drive to Canada. Miss Lou Ann Sparks, who is training at St. Francis Hospital, San Francisco, will be home today for a two weeks’ vacation with her parents, the D. M. Sparks. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Baker entertained as house guests over the holiday weekend Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jackson of San Francisco.]]>
