October 15, 1953 Following the breaking of the ground for the new city park last Thursday afternoon, work began in earnest on the lawn with Joe Diaz cultivating, leveling and rolling the ground. Larry Warren returned to Winters Monday night after having received his discharge from the U. S. Navy. He had served for more than three years. The Bureau of Reclamation Tuesday called for bids for a vacant lot in Winters to be rented to the Bureau for construction of a warehouse. Rev. Glen Parks, who has served as pastor of the Assembly of God church here for the past year and a half, has resigned his pastorate to accept the post as minister at the Rio Linda Assembly of God Church. Mr. and Mrs. John O’Brien received a letter Wednesday from their son, Airman 3/c Lewis O’Brien, who stated that he had graduated as an honor student from Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. Pfc. Frank Martin Jr., came from Anchorage, Alaska, Oct. 1, and is now stationed in San Francisco, at Fort Winfield Scott, in the Presidio. Mrs. Robert E. Campbell, Mrs. Ray Marshall and Mrs. E. E. Zimmerman are this week attending the state convention of the W.C.T.U. this week in Oakland. Little George Davidson Jr. was honored Friday evening on the occasion of his third birthday anniversary with a dinner given at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Davidson, Sr.]]>
