September 2, 1938 Dr. Herron reports that the 160 registered on the opening day of school at the high school August 29 was the largest entrance enrollment in the history of the school. Last year’s enrollment was 146 on opening day. Mrs. S. W. Jopes is retiring this fall from the teaching profession after some 35 years of consecutive, faithful service. She has taught in the schools of Amador, Placer and Yolo counties, in Winters, Esparto and Cottonwood districts. Mrs. Elizabeth Gaddini of Healdsburg returned home Tuesday after a few days visit at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. E. Gaddini. The rural fire department was called out early Friday morning to Mrs. Helen Pleasants ranch in Pleasants Valley. Seven sulphur houses filled with trays and peaches were burned. Mrs. R. L. Niemann, and daughter, Miss Evelyn have returned from a brief visit with Leland Niemann and family in Los Angeles. Miss Alta Wells, county health official, has returned from a trip to Hawaii and has been visiting relatives among the Pleasants families in Pleasants Valley. ]]>
