After a day of rain with more coming in, the sky was filled with dark billowing clouds and the field soaked. In these conditions the Winters High School boys soccer team played in the first round of NSCIF Division III playoffs. The game was played on the Shirley Rominger Field, giving the Warriors home field advantage.
Weather to the north could have caused a different out come from Thursday’s game.
The team from Los Molinos drove for three hours to get to the game.
Their normal route was affected by weather conditions. Southbound I-5 was closed due to flooding, and I-505 had some closures between CA-16 and I-5. The Los Molinos soccer team detoured through Yuba City and Woodland and showed up later than expected.
The game was scheduled to start at 3 p.m. but started at 3:33 p.m.
The Warriors had many attempts to make a goal, successfully putting two into the net. The resulting score of the game was 2-0, with the Warriors shutting out Los Molinos. The two goals were shot by Ivan Santana, one in each half. The first goal was assisted by Jesus Sanchez and Santana headed it in.
The second was assisted by Adrian Jimenez to Santana for a kick into the net.
The Warriors will move on to the the second round of NSCIF Division III playoffs. It will be on Tuesday, Feb. 19 against Colusa High School at 3 p.m. on the Shirley Rominger Field.
The admission fees will be $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students.]]>
