She may be learning from her big sister Vanessa but Valeria Ceja is not following in her sister’s shadow she is making a name for herself in girls wrestling. On March 22-25, Cejas traveled to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to compete in the Cox Convention Center in the 2018 Girls Folk Style National Championships.
With some of the top wrestlers competing from more than 40 different states, the competition couldn’t have been any tougher.
Vanessa Ceja competed in the tournament and had to leave early on due to an injury, but Valeria fought to the end.
Valeria competed in a 64 person bracket and when it was all said and done was standing in the seventh spot on the podium qualifying her as an All American Wrestler.
“She has really come into her own,” coach Andy Gomez said. “She is taking girls wrestling in Winters to another level.”
Ceja shined at the right time since the Women’s College Wrestling Association was holding a recruiting fair at the tournament as well. No better time to show your best.
