It was another successful day for Winters High School wrestling on both the girls side and the boys side.

For the girls, Vanessa Ceja placed second at the Masters Meet at McNair High School last Friday, Feb. 16, and Saturday, Feb. 17.

For the second straight season Ceja will represent the Warriors Wrestling team at the girls state tournament in Visalia Feb. 23-24.

Ceja went 2-0 in the first day of competition and then won her semifinal match on day two to put her in the championship match. Ceja lost in the finals but still advances into the CIF State Girls Wrestling Championships.

“Vanessa did a great job,” said coach Andy Gomez.

“I think she has a good chance at state and at defeating the girl that beat her if she faces her again.”

Eli Moore had a great day as well going 2-1 on Friday, to advance to the second day of competition. Moore lost her match on Saturday, but finished in fifth place in the tournament.

Valeria Ceja competed as well and did a great job. Unfortunately, she had to face the second-place finisher in one of her matches and went 0-2.

At the boys Divisional Championship meet in Chester on Saturday, Feb. 17, the Warriors sent three competitors and had three advance onto the Masters meet this week. Kendrick Borchard and Angel Vital both took second place, while Albert Ramos placed third.

All three wrestlers will travel to Redding on Friday, Feb. 23, to compete in the NSCIF Championship meet at the Redding Convention Center with hopes of advancing to the State Finals.
