By CHERYL MOORE/Special to the Express
Cheryl Moore and Janet Andersen are excited to announce the opening of The Club House Preschool. The Club House is a full time, year-round preschool program for children age 2 to entry into first grade. The Club House programs are in addition to the current Tree House programs, which will remain unchanged.
The preschool is located at 417 Haven Street, directly across the street from The Tree House and Waggoner Elementary School. The house has been renovated and turned into a cute, homey preschool.
The surprisingly large back yard now has a large sandbox with a sand kitchen, a clubhouse, a turf area with a play structure and a large concrete area for riding trikes and other wheeled toys. We also built a stand perfect for turning into a fruit stand, lemonade stand or whatever the children can imagine.
The Club House is using the same proven Tree House curriculum adapted for this multi-age, full-day program. Each day is filled with purposeful, facilitated and free play where language is supported, and social and emotional skills can be taught and practiced. Kindness is highly valued and taught throughout the day.
The activities are designed to be high interest, engaging and developmentally appropriate. The morning starts off with a hearty breakfast and a group time where students sing, dance and see what friends are here that day. Morning activities center around an art project, sensory play, group activities and outside fun, and story time. The children eat lunch together and then settle down for rest time.
In the afternoon, they have snack together, play outside, and enjoy more art, stories and fun inside play.
We slow things down at the end of the day with stories, a light snack and table top activities. The children have many opportunities to develop problem solving and conflict resolution skills as the teachers facilitate their interactions with their peers. All curriculum is designed to be flexible so it can be adapted to meet individual needs.
Maria Arredondo is the director at The Club House. She worked at The Tree House for two years in our after school program and has over 20 years of preschool experience. She is so excited to be at The Club House and is having a great time planning fun and creative activities for the children.
Destiny Collado is the assistant director. Destiny worked at The Tree House for over five years and had three years of preschool experience before that. Destiny is loving her new experience at The Club House and having fun with all of the new families.
We have three other teachers on the team and will be hiring more in the near future.
The Club House staff is very strong and loving, with their focus on helping teach the children the social and emotional skills they need to develop a lifetime love of learning.
