Caregivers are needed countywide on a part-time and/or full-time basis to assist In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) consumers with their varying needs.
Caregivers play an important role in ensuring that elderly and individuals with disabilities can remain safely in their homes. In Yolo County, over 2,600 individuals are eligible to receive In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), which is a Medi-Cal program that assists qualified individuals in hiring caregivers to help them with daily living activities. For the elderly and individuals living with disabilities, access to a caregiver can support their overall safety and help prevent early entry to skilled nursing facilities.
Typical tasks that consumers of In-Home Supportive Services may need assistance with include meal preparation, light cleaning, grocery shopping, accompaniment to medical appointments and personal care such as bathing and dressing. The number of caregiver hours a consumer can access is determined by their unique conditions and abilities. The hourly wage for Yolo County IHSS caregivers is $12 per hour.
Those interested in making a difference for the elderly and individuals with disabilities by becoming an IHSS caregiver, should contact the Yolo County IHSS Public Authority at (530) 661-2676. The Public Authority assists IHSS consumers and caregivers by maintaining a registry and providing free referral services for caregivers seeking employment and consumers needing caregivers.
