County, university bands will present combined concert

The Yolo County Community Band and the UC Davis Campus Band will present a special concert featuring music written by internationally-known composers. The ensembles will perform a special concert on Thursday, Feb. 22, in celebration of this newly founded opportunity. The performance will take place at the Pioneer High School Theater in Woodland at 7 p.m.

The two ensembles have become well-known for their acceptance and appreciation for musicians of varied age and ability level. Both groups welcome all performers.

It is bound to be a great night full of wonderful music when two organizations from communities just a few miles apart can share their passions.

The Davis Campus Band will be featuring musical works by modern and 20th century composers including: “Lightning Field” by John Mackey, “Ruckus” by Randall Standridge, and “Candide Suite” by Leonard Bernstein/Clare Grundman. The UCD Campus Band will also be performing “The Promise of Living” by Aaron Copland.

This piece will feature guest conductor Sydney Bonnell, a senior music student and student director of the Cal Aggie Marching Band-Uh! Meanwhile, the YCCB’s musical selections will include “Machu Picchu – City in the Sky” by Satoshi Yagisawa, “October” by Eric Whitacre, and “Tempered Steel” by Charles Rochester Young.

This is the first collaborative effort between the two groups, and they are excited to bring an exciting evening of music to the community.

Tickets are $5 at the door.
