Cara Duarte was the big winner of the Grad Nite raffle, held at the March 24 dinner and dance fundraiser, and was presented a check for $3,000. Coming in second was Harper Brown, who won $1,000.

The annual event is the major fundraiser for Grad Nite, which provides a fun, safe graduation party for Winters High School seniors.

Grad Nite committee member Carolyn Garcia explains that following graduation, students are bussed to a private ranch in rural Winters, where they can stay all night to celebrate. The busses return at 6 a.m. the following morning to take them back home.

Garcia points out that such a big event isn’t cheap.

“This is a very expensive evening,” says Garcia. “We have been working on this fundraiser since last year.”

For their efforts, 200 attendees turned out for the event, and 500 “chance” raffle tickets were sold. All in all, it was a big success.

“We made enough to pay for the event, buy amazing gifts for each senior to win as a prize, and had money leftover for the Class of 2019 to have a start-up fund for their Grad Night planning,” says Garcia.
