Every year, the Elder Day Council celebrates older adults that reside in Winters, applauding them publicly and hosting them and their families at the festive Elder Day reception. It’s absolutely amazing to hear their stories and to see a glimpse of history as they tell their stories.

One honoree recounted that as a young girl, she was a tomboy, and, according to her, at 96-years young, she still is. So many wonderful stories to share.

Throughout history, older adults have achieved much for our families and community. That remains true today, and gives us ample reason each year to reserve a special day, Elder Day, in honor of all older adults, but especially those that are 90-years of age and older, or will be 90-years of age before Dec. 31, and who mean so much to us all.

Elder Day, Saturday, June 2, is set aside to give community appreciation to our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents by showing them our sincere affection and gratitude where the entire Winters community will celebrate the people being highlighted that day.

The public acknowledgement is for their personal contribution to families, friends, and community. In 2017, the Elder Day Council was able to bring together and rejoice a large number of local residents in that age group.

If you know of anyone in that age group, please contact the Elder Day Council. For our Latino community, contacto: Miembro del concilio de adultos mayores Irene Goya-Tweedt at teléfono: 530-212-1035, or igoyatweedt@wintershealth.org. For all others, please contact Wally Pearce, 530-771-7265 or denropro@gmail.com . Your help with this is greatly appreciated.

Equally important, please mark your calendars and plan on attending this wonderful Elder Day festivity on Saturday, June 2, from 2-4 p.m. at the St. Anthony’s Parrish Hall located at 511 Main Street here in Winters. Come and watch history being made in the City of Winters. Everyone, all of our families and friends, are welcome.
