It was a three game week for the Winters High School varsity softball team but only two of them matter and those are the two the Warriors won. Winters traveled to Wheatland for a non-league game on Monday, April 23, to take on the Pirates but came home with an 8-2 loss.

Alexis Garcia led the Warriors at the plate, batting 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, a run scored and an RBI. Camryn Hamilton batted 2 for 3 as well. AliAnn Iten batted 1 for 2 with a run scored. Makynsie Tuttle went 1 for 2, while Jocelyn McMillan and Eli Moore batted 1 for 3.

On Friday, April 27, Winters traveled to Live Oak for a double header and came home with two league victories. The 4-2 lead in the first inning proved to be enough for the win, but the Warriors decided to end it early and crossed the plate 10 more times in the fourth for a 14-2 victory in a five-inning game.

Again Garcia led the team at the plate, going 2 for 2 with three runs scored. Currently, Garcia leads the team in batting with an average of .547, in runs scored at 24, in hits with 35, RBI at 18, in doubles with 10 and leads the league in slugging percentage at .937, homeruns with five, has a grand slam and has struck out 119 batters, which is 78 more than the next person in the Sacramento Valley League South.

“She is on a mission,” said coach Garrett Garcia. “Alexis has always had a passion for softball and the dedication to put in the work to become an elite player both as a pitcher and a hitter.”

Moore batted 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Christi Woods scored a run. Payton Paschoal went 1 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. Tuttle batted 1 for 2 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Alexia Larsen went 1 for 2 with a run scored. Iten batted 1 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI, while McMillan went 1 for 2 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI.

In game two of the double header, the Warriors once again put the Lions away early with a 10-0 victory in five innings, giving the Warriors a 4-2 league record. Garcia got the win on the mound with seven strikeouts.

At the plate, Iten led the team batting 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Woods went 1 for 1 with a run scored and an RBI. Paschoal scored a run. Tuttle batted 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Garcia went 1 for 3 with a run scored. Hamilton scored a run. Marin Spalding batted 2 for 3 with two RBI.
