Girls basketball loses two on the road

It was a tough week for the Winters High School varsity girls basketball team as they lost both of their contests on the road. Winters started their week with a 67-39 league loss to Willows on Tuesday, Jan. 16. JorDann Jones led the team with 17 points. Alexis Garcia and Sheila Mora each scored 8 points. AliAnn Iten scored 4 points and had three rebounds, while Makenzie Tuttle scored 2 points for Winters.

The Warriors traveled to East Nicolaus on Thursday, Jan. 18, and came home with a disappointing 52-44 non conference loss to the Spartans. After leading 23-17 at the half the Warriors suffered a 22-5 deficit in the third period and they were unable to recover control.

Jones again led Winters with 13 points and had three rebounds and a steal. Mora scored 11 points and had three rebounds and two assists. Iten scored 9 points, had 12 rebounds, seven blocks, four assists and four steals. Garcia had 6 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal. Tuttle scored 3 points, grabbed nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Mayce Newcomb scored 2 points and had two rebounds.
