Winters controlled the first half, but unfortunately Colusa controlled the second as the Winters High School girls soccer team lost their league opener by a score of 2-1 on Thursday, Jan. 11.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead going into the half, but the RedHawks retaliated in the second, scoring two of their own for the win.

Ivett Arellano scored the Warriors’ only goal off an assist from Stephanie Angel.

Winters had 37 steals defensively led by Katie Rotenkolber, Victoria Olton and Keeley Stone. Cara Baker and Lizette Bermudez each had four steals.

Corrine McKenna, Vivian Del Toro and Michelle Reyes each had three steals, Sarah Hagy and Jules Jiminez each had two and Emilia Orosco had one. Fatima Guzman had six saves at goalkeeper for Winters.

The boys soccer team had a defensive battle in their contest with the RedHawks, playing an exhausting game that ended with the same score it started with: 0-0.

Obviously the two teams were evenly matched and both will have a second chance to get the edge on the other when they face each other again on Jan. 30.

No stats for the boys team were available at press time.
