Girls team stings the Yellowjackets 45-7

It was a tremendous start in league play for the Winters High School varsity girls basketball team as they hosted Williams on Tuesday, Jan. 9, for their first league game of the season and according to Maxpreps, beat the Yellowjackets 45-7.

The box score shows the Warriors outscoring Williams 26-0 in the first period, 0-0 in the second, 7-0 in the third and 12-7 in the fourth.

AliAnn Iten led all scorers with 12 points and had seven rebounds.

JorDann Jones scored 10 points, had three rebounds and three steals.

Sheila Mora scored 7 points. Anne Guidici scored 6 points.

Alexis Garcia scored 4 points and had six rebounds.

Nataly Hernandez scored 2 points, Mayce Newcomb scored 2 points, while Makenzie Tuttle scored 2 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had a block and a steal.

Game two of the week didn’t go as well as game one, but fortunately for Winters, it was a non-league game against Durham.

The Warriors traveled to Durham on Friday, Jan. 12, and came home with a 52-29 loss to the Trojans.

Winters had a hard time keeping up with Durham right from the start and fell behind early.

Jones and Mora each scored 8 points to lead the team.

Iten and Garcia each scored 5 points. Tuttle scored 2 points and Newcomb added 1 point.
