They lost their first game of the week against visiting Live Oak by a score of 46-42 on Tuesday, Jan. 23, and then beat visiting Pierce High School 57-44 on Friday, Jan. 26.
The Winters High School varsity girls basketball team hosted the Lions in a Sacramento Valley League game on Tuesday, and came up short of a fourth period come back. Winters trailed 26-19 at the half and 35-29 to start the fourth and to start their comeback. The Warriors outscored the Lions 13-11 in the fourth but it was just short of a victory.
AliAnn Iten led all scorers with a double-double, scoring 19 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, had two assists, five steals and three blocks. JorDann Jones scored 11 points and had seven rebounds. Alexis Garcia scored 8 points and had four rebounds with three assists. Sheila Mora scored 4 points, had two rebounds and two assists.
Against visiting Pierce, the Warriors started slow and fell behind 14-7 after the first period but controlled the rest of the game pulling off a 57-44 victory. Pierce tried to make a comeback and closed the gap in the last five minutes but the Warriors hit some big shots and put the game out of reach.
Iten and Jones both scored a double-double, while Mora led the team with 14 points. Mora also had two steals. Iten scored 13 points, had 12 rebounds, two steals and a block. Jones scored 13 points, had 11 rebounds and two steals.
Garcia also scored in double digits, putting 11 points on the board and had five rebounds. Mayce Newcomb scored 6 points and had two rebounds. Makenzie Tuttle grabbed four rebounds and Valarie Soto had one rebound.
