The last day to file candidacy papers for the June 5 election is Friday, March 9.
Three seats will be open on the Winters City Council. They are currently held by Mayor Wade Cowan and Council Members Harold Anderson and Pierre Neu. The terms of these seats are four years.
To date, incumbents Cowan and Neu have taken out papers. Three others have taken out papers to run for city council: Jeff TenPas, George Elrod and Nancy Northrup. No one who has taken out papers has filed them at City Hall yet.
The positions of city clerk, currently held by Nanci Mills, and city treasurer, currently held by Mike Sebastian, are also up for election this year.
These are also four-year terms. Sebastian has taken out papers to run for reelection, however, Mills plans to retire and has not taken out papers, nor has anyone else for the position of city clerk.
If no one, or only one person runs for each office, the council may appoint someone to fill the seat.
If candidacy papers for an incumbent are not filed by March 9, the filing period will be extended to Wednesday, March 14.
In the event that no incumbent actually files papers by the March 9 deadline, incubents will not be eligible to file during the extended period of time.
Candidacy papers must be filed with the city clerk at City Hall during normal office hours.
For more information about the duties of these positions or filing candidacy papers, call City Clerk Nanci Mills, 794-6701.
