A mobile home was destroyed in a structure fire on Jan. 12. According to Winters Fire Captain Art Mendoza, the 911 call came at 8:02 a.m. for the 30000 block of Pleasants View Drive.

Emergency crews responding to the scene found the mobile home “well involved,” with some exposure to a nearby barn. However, Mendoza said firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the home.

Mendoza said all of the occupants were out of the building, however, two dogs and a cat were trapped inside and died in the single-alarm fire.

In addition to the Winters Fire Department, fire departments from the City of Vacaville, Dixon and Yolo Fire District responded. The fire was contained by 10:26 a.m.

Mendoza said the cause of the fire was “undetermined,” but was ruled “accidental.”

According to an additional resident on the property, the destroyed home belonged to Christa Petrillo and Jason Haefner. A “GoFundMe” account has been set up to help them. The “Help Christa and Jason” GoFundMe page reports the following:

“Early Friday morning, January 12, 2018, Christa returned home from her morning coffee run to find her home up in flames. Jason was out of town at a horse show. Christa had three dogs and a cat inside and was only able to save one dog. They have lost everything.

“Please help them as they are going to need to rebuild their life. With the complexities of multiple families, homes, farm and business insurance Christa and Jason’s home itself was not insured by mistake. This is a devastating loss. Anything is appreciated.”
