Moore wins her first title on the mat

Eli Moore won her first wrestling tournament championship as she joined her team in competing at the Lady Eagle Invitational at Enochs High School in Modesto.

On Saturday, Jan. 20, the Winters girls joined 184 other female wrestlers to compete in a very competitive tournament and they didn’t disappoint.

Moore won gold after battling through her division. Vanessa Ceja took second place in her class and Alaina Corliss went 2-3 with a very strong showing.

The boys team competed in the Jason White Tournament at Lindhurst High School on the same day and did very well.

Kendrick Borchard went 2-1
for a second-place finish. Angel Vital also went 2-1 for a third place. Albert Ramos went 3-2 for a fifth place finish. Brandon Gomez went 2-2 and Dylan Adams went 0-2 on the day.

The Warriors hosted East Nicolaus and Esparto on Wednesday, Jan. 24, in a practice meet and had a very good showing. Corliss, Vital, Borchard, Gomez, Ramos and Adams all competed and had great matches.

On Saturday, Jan. 27, the boys team traveled to Rodriguez High School to compete in another tough tournament. Borchard went 4-1 and placed fifth, while Vital went 3-1 for a fifth place finish.

“They both had a great tournament,” said coach Andy Gomez. “I am proud of both of them. They worked hard and did well.”
