Special to the Express On Tuesday, August 7 Orchard Village Apartments hosted an annually National Night Out event. This event was geared to promote safety in the community. Police officers from the Winters Police Department along with the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department came out with the Winters Fire Department in an effort to demonstrate safety matters. Residents of the community were able to receive pamphlets, information, along with stickers and coloring books. The Winters Fire Department gave a demonstration of preparing for a fire and how the fireman outfit operates. A tour around the fire truck was done and the fire department answered questions asked by children in attendance. The community was also offered the opportunity to hold the hose in a demonstration of how the hose is used to help put of fires. The Winters PD and Yolo Sheriff Department gave an up close and person tour of the cars showing the community the sirens, along with the inside of the cars. The spikes were the excitement among the children as they asked questions about tires popping. One little one asked, “What if you hit my mommy’s car?” Tilly Burks, Community Manager enjoys putting the event together every year in an effort to bring the community together with the Winters PD and Fire Dept. “This event is truly an excellent event. As a community, we come together, have dinner, games, and enjoy one’s another’s company in an educational setting,” Burks said. “It is always a joy to have the Winter’s PD and Fire Dept come out as the residents get really excited and are able to see demonstrations as well as ask some great questions. It is nice to have that involvement and support. I believe it was a great success this year and looking forward to next years.”]]>
