Softball opens season against Fairfield

After a week of rain the ground was soaked, but after two days the sports fields were able to dry out by the end of the week and the Winters High School softball teams played a rescheduled home, non-conference game against Fairfield High School on Friday, March 1.

The junior varsity softball team had eight runs already batted in during the second inning, and the bases were loaded when Sierra Berry hit a grand slam to clear the bases.

Riley Schroeder, next at bat, hit a home run. The two power plays back to back gave the Warriors 13 runss in the second inning. The game was called in the fifth inning and the junior varsity Warriors won the game with a score of 22-9. The junior varsity softball Warriors open the season with a record of 1-0.

The varsity softball team played a tough game against Fairfield. Colby Shaw hit a double with a runner on base, batting the runner in for the only run for the varsity Warriors. The Warriors lost the game to Fairfield with the score of 5-1. The varsity softball Warriors record is 0-1.

The original game scheduled to open the season on Wednesday, Feb. 27 against Dixon High School was canceled due to the field being too wet.

The Warriors softball teams next games will be a home, non-conference against Woodland Christian School on Tuesday, March 5 at 3:30 p.m. and on Friday, March 8, they will travel to Colusa for a 2-day tournament.
