A proposal for the development of more than 100 new homes was approved by the Winters planning commission last Tuesday.

The plan is contingent on a sale of over 100 lots finished by developer Homes by Towne in the Stone’s Throw subdivision to K. Hovnanian Homes, a subsidiary of New Jersey-based Hovnanian Enterprises. The company is currently in escrow to acquire the lots from Homes by Towne, the original developer of the land.

Plans for the 100-plus homes were subject to review by the city’s Design Review Committee earlier this year. Among other things, the committee asked for the developer to include more color schemes beyond the dozen that were introduced to the committee in January.

The developer responded by increasing the number of color schemes for the homes to over 18 different selections, some of which will be featured on model homes slated to be built on two lots in the subdivision. The colors of the homes include blues, beiges and several different earth tones; renderings of the homes presented to the planning commission showed an array of colorful homes lined up side-by-side that are expected to appear throughout the subdivision.

In addition to the color schemes, the homes are expected to contain fire-resistant building materials, including sprinkler systems; wood fencing and solar-powered street and sidewalk lighting fixtures.
