Tickets are still available for Winters Farm to School’s Summer Solstice Feast, which will be held on Saturday, June 23, at the historic Wolfskill Ranch in Winters.
“The feast has become a favorite summer fundraiser for our community,” says Melanie Bajakian, a founding member of Winters Farm to School. “It’s such a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. One, long table seating up to 250 guests stretches beneath the canopy of 157-year old olive trees lining the drive at the Wolfskill Ranch. Everyone brings their own tableware so the tables are always a fabulous mix of fine china to hand-thrown, colorful ceramic plates. In past years, some guests have brought table decorations, which add even a little more flair.”
“Guests start gathering for drinks and appetizers and conversation at 11:30 a.m. We gather under a huge pecan tree planted by John Wolfskill. Around 1 p.m. we sit down for our multi-course feast served family style,” says Bajakian.
“Winters Farm to School began in 2011. With the slogan “local foods for local kids,” Winters Farm to School uses the money raised at our annual feast to purchase fresh fruits, nuts and produce for our school district’s meal programs,” says Cathy Olsen, director of food services for the Winters School District and a founding member of Winters Farm to School. “Because of the funds raised by Winters Farm to School, there are fresh greens and seasonal fruits offered at every meal served. It is so rewarding to see our school children not only eating their vegetables, but enjoying them too.”
Tickets for this year’s Summer Solstice Feast are $125 per person. They are available at ACE Hardware on Main Street in Winters, on line at www.wintersfarmtoschool.com or by calling 530-795-6109.
