Track team competes in five-way meet in Live Oak

Competing in a Sacramento Valley League meet against Willows, Colusa, Live Oak and Pierce, the Winters High School track team was able to get a good look at their competition for the league championship meet coming up on Friday, May 11, at Yuba City College. The Warriors traveled to Live Oak on Wednesday, May 2, and did a good job against the rest of the league.

For the varsity girls, it was Jules Jiminez taking second place in the 100 meters with a time of 13.63 and Mallory Layne placing fifth in 14.72. Jiminez took second in the 200 as well in 30.28, Layne placed fourth in 31.15 followed by Katie Rotenkolber making the top five at 32.19. In the 800, Corrine McKenna placed third in 3:10.00 and Lizette Bermudez was fourth at 3:10.6. Also making the top five in the shot put was Odales Gonzalez placing third with a toss of 25’2.5” followed by Anne Guidici in fourth place at 25’1.5”. In the long jump, Molly Moore took second place with a leap of 13’8”.

For the varsity boys, Anthony Jiminez made the top five placing fourth in the 100 with a time of 12.13. Claudio Reyes took third place in the 200 meters in 26.37. Kohner Butts placed second in the 400 in 53.22 and took first place in the 800 with a time of 2:16.4. In the 1600, Derek Reyes placed fourth in 5:35.00. Avondre Coleman-Tucker took third place in 39’6” and Sam Petersen placed fifth at 34’1.5”. Petersen took third place in the discus with a throw of 91’2” and Coleman-Tucker placed fourth at 90’5.5”. In the long jump, Jimenez placed second with a jump of 18’.0” and Albert Ramos placed second in the triple jump at 34’6”.

Cara Baker won two events, with a first place in the 800 in 3:07.8 and a first in the 3200 with a time of 15:55.40. Aide Aquilera won the 100 hurdles in 19.69 and placed third in the shot put with a toss of 23’05”. Victoria Banuelos made the top five in the 100 placing third with a time of 14.71. Banuelos also took second in the 200 at 33.09.

In the JV boys, Kevin Reyes took third place in the 100 with a time of 12.96 and was second in the 200 in 27.78. In the 400, Garrett Matheson placed fourth in 1:03.9 and Juan Blanco followed in fifth at 1:09.5. Jeremy Alberg took second place in the 800 with a time of 2:27.50. Jaxson Davis took second place in the 3200 with a time of 11:41.10, followed by Dalton Shaw in third at 12:44.10 and Jorge Luis Fernandez in fifth at 14:12.80. Fernandez also took second place in the 110 hurdles 21.34, and second in the 300 hurdles in 54.15. Matheson made the top five in the high jump at 4’6”, while Juan Pablo Garcia took first place in the long jump at 17’2” with Christian Gonzalez making the top five at 15’1”.
