Warrior softball goes 2-3 this week

The Warriors started the week earning two wins and despite losing the next three games, had a competitive finish in a busy week of softball. The Winters High School varsity girls softball team played five games last week, starting with a 9-8 victory over Fairfield High School on the road.

The Warriors traveled to Fairfield on Monday, March 5, and pulled an on-the-road victory after totaling 14 hits with eight RBI. Makynsie Tuttle led Winters batting 4 for 4 with a triple, a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Jocelyn McMillian batted 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

Alexis Garcia batted 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Eli Moore went 2 for 4 with a triple, a run scored and three RBI. AliAnn Iten batted 1 for 4 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI. Brooke Benson batted 1 for 4 with a run scored. Payton Paschoal batted 2 for 4 with a triple, a double, a run scored and two RBI, while Camryn Hamilton batted 1 for 3 for Winters.

Winters picked up their second straight win the next day with a 7-6 victory over visiting Rio Vista on Tuesday, March 6. Once again the Warriors hit the ball well, totaling 11 hits with six RBI.

Moore led the team batting 2 for 3 with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI. McMillian went 2 for 4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Paschoal also went 2 for 4 with a triple and a run scored. Christy Woods batted 1 for 3. Iten batted 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Tuttle batted 1 for 4 with a run scored. Garcia batted 1 for 2 with a double, a run scored and two RBI and Alexia Larsen went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

On Friday, March 9, Winters competed in the Colusa Tournament and faced Oroville in their first game. Despite losing 8-2 the Warriors continued to hit the ball well totaling eight hits in the game.

Iten led the team, batting 2 for 2 with two doubles. Garcia batted 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. McMillian batted 1 for 3 with an RBI. Moore went 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI. Tuttle batted 1 for 3 with a run scored and Larsen went 1 for 1.

In game two of the day and the tournament, Winters faced Ripon and were shut out 10-0 by the Indians. On Saturday, March 10, Winters faced Willows in their third and final game and lost 10-6 to the Honkers. No stats were available.

JV team

In their only game of the week, the Winters High School JV softball team hosted Rio Vista on Tuesday, March 6, and suffered a 23-5 loss to the Rams. Madison Duarte went 2 for 2 with two stolen bases and scored a run for Winters.

The Warriors will be back in action at home on Wednesday, March 14, when they host St. Helena at Shirley Rominger School.
