Warriors dominate the field in two games

The Winters High School girls soccer team traveled up I-5 twice this week. On Tuesday, Jan. 8 the Warriors played Pierce High School, and on Wednesday, Jan. 9 they played against Williams High School. Both were Sacramento Valley league games. The varsity Warriors dominated the field in both games this week and came out with two wins.   In the home game against Pierce, the Warriors had complete control of the offensive side of the ball and received five corner kicks. The scoring plays of the game were made by L. Bermudez, Molly Moore, Elina Perez and Vickie Banuelos. Corinne McKenna received the www.maxpreps.com player of the game from Coach Kim Olivas. “Corinne did an excellent job of distributing the ball around the field. She controlled the tempo of the game,” stated Olivas. On Wednesday the Warriors played their second game of the week against Williams. The Warriors had every part of the field locked down and received two corner kicks. Amy Piscano, Cara Baker, McKenna, K. Echeverria, Karla Reyes, Mallory Layne and Banuelos each scored one goal. Moore had two goals for the game. Perez finished out the total score with a hat trick for a complete score of 12-0. Emilia Orozco received the www.maxpreps.com player of the game from Coach Olivas. “Playing a strong game at center defender Emilia helped the defense keep the Williams team from getting any shots on the goal. Emilia’s skills and game knowledge improve with every game,” said Olivas. There will be two games this week. The first will be a home game, where the warriors will host Live Oak High School in a Sacramento league game, on Monday, Jan. 14. On Wednesday, Jan. 16 the Warriors will host Esparto High School, also in a Sacramento Valley League game. ]]>
