In their opening Sacramento Valley League week of play, the Winters High School varsity softball team lost back to back games against visiting Colusa and then lost a non-league game to Gridley on the road.
On April 10, Winters hosted the Colusa RedHawks in a double header and lost both games 12-5 and 12-4. The next day, the Warriors traveled to Gridley and lost a close one to the Bulldogs by the score of 9-8.
In game one against the RedHawks, Winters totaled 14 hits with just four RBI leaving a lot of runners on base. Alexis Garcia batted 3 for 3 with a run scored. Jocelyn McMillan went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI. Christi Woods batted 1 for 3 with a run scored. AliAnn Iten went 2 for 4 with a run scored. Brooke Benson batted 1 for 4. Eli Moore went 2 for 2 with a triple and Payton Paschoal batted 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
Game two of the double header was much like the first one, with the Warriors losing 12-4. Winters totaled 13 hits but had just one RBI in the game. Paschoal had the hot bat this game, going 3 for 3 with a double, a triple and a run scored. Woods went 2 for 3 with a run scored. Iten batted 2 for 4 with two runs scored. McMillan went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Moore batted 2 for 3. Makynsie Tuttle batted 1 for 2 and Garcia went 1 for 4 in the game.
Winters ended the week the next day on the road traveling to Gridley for a no- league pick-up game and gave up a one run game at 9-8 after a hard fought battle.
At the plate it was Garcia leading the team by blasting a grand slam, with a double as she batted 3 for 4 with three runs scored and four RBI. Iten batted 1 for 2 with a run scored. Benson went 1 for 2. Moore batted 3 for 4. Paschoal went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Tuttle batted 1 for 1 and Camryn Hamilton went 2 for 4 with an RBI. All stats can be seen on Maxpreps.com.
