Warriors drop two league games

It was a tough week for the Winters High School varsity girls basketball team as they dropped both of their league games as they fight to make a spot in the playoffs. Winters traveled to Colusa on Tuesday, Jan. 30, and came home with a 40-27 loss to the RedHawks.

The Warriors managed to put just 2 points on the board in the first period and none in the second to go into the half down 11-2.

Winters was only outscored 29-25 in the second half but was unable to make up the difference.

JorDann Jones led Winters with 9 points and had two rebounds.

AliAnn Iten scored 7 points, had six rebounds, a block and a steal. Sheila Mora scored 6 points, had six steals and six rebounds. Alexis Garcia scored 4 points and had a rebound. Mayce Newcomb scored 1 point and had a steal, while Valarie Soto and Makenzie Tuttle each had a rebound.

The Warriors played their second game of the week at home on Thursday, Feb. 1, against Willows and lost 64-44. Again, a sluggish first half plagued Winters in the end.

Iten had a big night scoring a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and a block.

Jones scored 11 points, had three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Garcia scored 8 points, had five rebounds and two steals.

Mora had 6 points, two rebounds and a steal and one assist. Newcomb scored 2 points.

Tuttle grabbed 10 rebounds and had two assists, while Soto and Marin Spalding each had a steal for the Warriors.
