Warriors hit 10-game win streak

Their week started with an 11-0 shutout over visiting Colusa and ended with an 8-7 squeaker over the RedHawks just three days later on the road. The Winters High School varsity baseball team extended their win streak to 10 but not without a close call in their second game of two against Colusa.

The Warriors started the week on Tuesday, April 10, posting their fifth straight shutout with an 11-0 win over Colusa in their first Sacramento Valley League game of the 2018 season. The Warriors led 3-0 going into the bottom of the fourth but then did that thing they do and put eight runs on the board to put the game away early.

Sammy Gonzales put the Warriors up early in the second with a blast over the center field fence but Daniel Carrion had the highlights in the fourth with a grand slam to help put the game away. Gonzales batted 2 for 2 with a homerun, a triple two runs scored and three RBI.

Daniel Carrion went 1 for 2 with a grand slam a run scored and four RBI. Brandon Gomez batted 2 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI. Ruben Valencia scored a run. Gary Molina went 1 for 3. Atlas Martinez batted 1 for 2 with a homerun, a run scored and two RBI. Anthony Carrion batted 2 for 2 with a double and a run scored. Jacob Roberts batted 1 for 3 with two runs scored, while McCay Baker and Jack Mariani each scored a run.

At the plate, it was Gomez earning his seventh win of the season improving his overall record to 7-0 on the mound. Gomez gave up no runs on three hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

On Wednesday, April 11, the Warriors traveled to Gridley for a non-league game and came home with a 9-5 victory over the Bulldogs. Daniel Carrion got the start and the win throwing the first four innings giving up two runs, just one earned on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Roberts threw the last three innings giving up three runs, just one earned on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Tyler Perez led the Warriors offensively batting 3 for 4 with a double and four runs scored. Gonzales scored a run. Valencia batted 1 for 3 with a run scored. Molina went 1 for 3. Daniel Carrion batted 1 for 4. Martinez went 1 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. Anthony Carrion scored a run. Roberts batted 1 for 2 with two runs scored. Baker scored two runs, while Mariani batted 1 for 4 with two runs scored.

In the final game of the week, Anthony Carrion improved his pitching record to 4-0 with an 8-7 victory over Colusa on Friday, April 13, on the road. Winters faced a different RedHawk team in their second match up that made for a much closer outcome. Carrion threw the first six innings giving up three runs on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Valencia threw .2 innings giving up four runs on four hits with a walk, while Gomez threw the last out giving up no runs on one hit for the save.

Daniel Carrion had another big day at the plate batting 2 for 4 with another homerun, a double three runs scored and an RBI. Gonzales went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Gomez scored a run. Valencia went 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. Molina batted 2 for 4 with two RBI. Anthony Carrion had a sacrifice RBI and Perez scored a run.  All stats can be found on Maxpreps.com.
