Warriors slay spartans

The Winters High School girls soccer team played two league games last week starting with a 2-0 loss to Pierce High School on Tuesday,  Jan. 16. The Warriors totaled 33 steals and had five saves from goalkeeper Fatima Guzman.

Winters returned home to play a game at Shirley Rominger School on Wednesday, Jan. 17, facing league foe Esparto and picked up a 4-1 victory over the Spartans.

The Warriors scored one goal in the first half and then then turned up the intensity and went on the attack in the second half. The Warriors were able to  net three more goals.

Molly Moore, Mallory Layne, Keeley Stone and Camryn Hamilton each scored a goal, while Moore, Corrine McKenna,  Michelle Reyes and Abby Delao each had an assist for Winters.

Defensively the Warriors totaled 54 steals with Lizette Bermudez totaling seven to lead the team. Victoria Olton, Stone and Stephanie Angel each had six steals. Reyes had five steals.

McKenna and Jules Jiminez each had four steals. Katie Rotenkolber had three steals, Cara Baker, Hannah Flores, Vivian Del Toro, Ivett Arellano and Delao each had two, while Sarah Hagy, Emilia Orosco and Hamilton each had one. Guzman had another five saves at keeper.
