Improving their league record to 4-2-1, the Winters High School girls soccer team won both of their league games last week. The Warriors started the week with a home game against Colusa on Tuesday, Jan. 30, and earned a 1-0 victory over the RedHawks.
Off a setup and assist from Molly Moore and Lizette Bermudez, Michelle Reyes was able to put the winning and only goal in the net in the first half. After that, it was the Warrior defense that did all the work.
Fatima Guzman totaled nine saves at goalkeeper. Keeley Stone had eight steals.
Katie Rotenkolber had six steals. Victoria Olton had five steals, Bermudez and Reyes each had four, Sarah Hagy, Cara Baker and Vivian Del Toro each had three, Emilia Orosco and Amy Pizano each had two steals, while Moore, Mallory Layne and Ivett Arellano each had one.
On Thursday, Feb. 1, Winters hosted Pierce High School and pulled off a 6-1 victory over the Bears. The Warriors scored three in the first half and three more in the second.
Corinne McKenna scored two goals and had an assist as well. Victoria Banuelos scored a goal.
Stone scored a goal. Camryn Hamilton and Jules Jiminez each scored a goal, while Karina Vasquez, Hannah Flores, Del Toro, Reyes, Arellano and Abby Delao each had an assist.
Defensively, Guzman had three saves. Rotenkolber had seven steals. McKenna and Stone each had four steals. Baker, Olton and Arellano each had three steals, Vasquez, Del Toro, Bermudez and Reyes each had two, while Banuelos, Flores, Orosco and Pizano each had one steal.
The Warriors will finish off the regular season of play on Thursday, Feb. 8, as they travel to Live Oak to decide who takes second or third place in the league standings.
