Winters FFA took 12 students to Woodland Community College on Jan. 19 to compete in the Yolo Section Public Speaking Contests. Seven of the 12 students will be moving on to the Central Region Speech Contest in March.
Four of our freshman participated in the FFA Creed Speaking contest. These students had to recite the FFA Creed from memory and then answer some questions on how they could apply the values from the FFA Creed to their own lives.
Three of our four Creed participants placed in the top four. They are Katie Pelletier, first place; Montana Maggenti, third place; and Liliana Gonzalez, fourth place.
We had three sophomores participate in the Impromptu public speaking contest. In this competition, the students are given a topic/quote/question that is related to agriculture. They are given one minute to prepare their response and then present it to the judges. Macy Paschoal placed third in this competition.
In the Prepared Public Speaking Competition, we had two students participate and they both placed in the top four. The two participants had to prepare a six to eight minute speech on an issue in agriculture and then answer follow-up questions about their area of research. Payton Paschoal received second place and Marin Spalding received third place in this contest.
Our last group of students participated in the Job Interview Contest.
These students went through a mock job interview, and created a resume and cover letter for an ag-related job.
Dakota Dummert took second place in this competition.
Great job to all students who competed, and good luck on March 16 at the Regional Speaking Contest.
