Ygnacio Lua Quiroz passed away at Woodland Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018. Born in Michoacan, Mexico, on April 5, 1917, he was 101 years old.
He came to the United States in the 1930s and participated in the Bracero program for farm laborers in California, and became a U.S. citizen along with the rest of his family. He ran the Bowman Ranch for 30 years and retired after 65 years of farming.
He is survived by his daughter, Maria Elena Arellano (Bernardino) and her twin brother, Jesus Serafin Lua; son Jose Luis (Suzie); 18 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia Serafin Lua; sons Jose Serafin Lua, Carlos Serafin Lua and Ygnacio Serafin Lua Jr., and daughter Maria de Jesus Serafin Lua.
A Rosary and viewing are planned on Thursday, Feb. 15, 5-7 p.m., and a Mass on Friday, 11 a.m. to noon at St. Anthony Catholic Church; burial will follow at the Winters Cemetery.
