The first Porchfest Winters musical event is happening on Sunday, Sept. 23 from noon to 6 p.m. on Main Street. The community is invited to come bring their lawn chairs, blankets, bikes and wagons to make the stroll down Main Street. Porchfest features 25 live performances on designated porch stages along Main Street. Each porch will feature music from solo string artists or music groups, including a full-on rock band and an acapella group. “This is a family-friendly, all ages, non-alcohol event,” said Porchfest Winters founder Sarah Madsen. Madsen is a singer and songwriter who has performed at Porchfest Napa for a number of years. She said she has wanted to bring it to Winters and finally started to put the wheels in motion in April 2018. With the help of teammates Traci Sotula, Emily Back and Karlie Ocenasek, she has been able to bring the dream to life. “I’m extremely excited and exhausted,” said Madsen. “This is something I’m passionate about. I intensely feel the labor of love.” Madsen said her goal of the event was to give original artists a stage to perform on in front of an audience. “My vision had it to be all original bands. By that, performing their own music and their own words,” said Madsen. “I really wanted people to take a stop and listen to the original bands and give them their attention.” With the help of Clayground owner Rebecca Bresnick, Porchfest will also feature local artists. Chalk art will be featured up and down Main Street and handmade, artisan crafts will be available to purchase from art vendors at the Winters City Park. “The focus of this event is creativity–art from the heart,” said Madsen. “I want you to speak to me with your music and your art.” A Winters Music Boosters bake sale and a gourmet truffle table crafted by Winters High School Culinary students will be located on Main Street. Porchfest Winters merchandise will be located at Anytime Fitness, 113 Main St. Proceeds will benefit the Winters Music Boosters. At the Winters City Park food truck vendors Cousins Live Maine Lobster, 808 Street Grindz and the Buckhorn BBQ will be on hand. Many Winters businesses are offering a “Porchfest Special” the day of the event. As of press time seven local businesses are featuring Porchfest specials, include Berryessa Gap Tasting Room, Buckhorn Steakhouse, Putah Creek Cafe, Preserve Public House, Turkovich Family Tasting Room, Green River Brewing & Taproom and the Clayground. Abbey House Inn is also offering a Porchfest Special rate that includes a gift card good at Putah Creek cafe for breakfast the next morning.
