Winters’ all-star lineup of local businesses is officially welcoming Copper + Steel Hair Studio into the fold. As if the town needed any more charm, this business is a local gal’s dream coming true every time she flips her sign to ‘open.’
Erica Morton — owner of Copper + Steel — was born and raised right here in Winters. With much of her childhood taking place at Camile’s Hair Salon, Morton was inspired by her mother’s work and made a career out of it herself.
“Watching my mom made me want to own my own business not just anywhere, but in Winters. I feel like we’ve really needed an updated salon in town and love the community,” Morton said laying out why she opened up shop in her hometown. “I also wanted to be closer to my home, too. My kids go to school here and it’s good to be so close to home.”
After the painstaking process of looking for the right location — and a pinch of serendipitous timing — Morton found it on 7 E. Main St. in suite 7B. As scary as starting a business is, this hair stylist doesn’t let it cut her excitement short.
“I’m excited to share my craft with my hometown and join the small businesses and be part of the community,” said Morton, who then talked about the vibe she aspires to instill in Copper + Steel. “We’re going to bring an upscale and luxurious salon experience, but also keep the friendship-based atmosphere. I don’t want it to be pretentious, but modern with that charming feel Winters has since you can go anywhere in this town and be around friends.”
Speaking of friends, the other businesses and community members in town have welcomed Copper + Steel with open arms since its opening on May 2. Not just because it’s the neighborly thing to do, but because when one local business thrives, so too do all of them along with the rest of the town.
“I really want to thank the community for being so warm and welcoming to us as well as all the local businesses,” Morton said praising Winters and its businesses. “Everyone has really embraced us and I am very grateful and appreciative of their kindness.”
Copper + Steel isn’t some ‘come-visit-us-because-we’re-a-cute-smalltown-salon’ either. Morton’s business provides custom and specialty hair coloring, haircutting services for men, women and children, special occasion hairstyling and make up, hair waving, Keratin smoothing treatments, facial waxing and hair extensions. Providing all these services are trained, hair-styling experts who simply love what they do.
