Superintendent Todd Cutler announced the Wolfskill Career Readiness Academy and leaders in the Winters Joint Unified School District who are being honored with an Excellence in Education award on Monday, April 29. The Yolo County School Boards Association (YCSBA) hosts the Excellence in Education Awards to recognize programs and leadership excellence across Yolo County and include school districts in Davis, Esparto, Winters, Washington, Woodland; plus individuals and programs in Yolo County Office of Education and in the Los Rios and Yuba Community College districts. An Individual Award is being awarded to Winters JUSD Trustee Rudolph Muldong. At the Winters JUSD school board meeting on Thursday, April 18 Cutler noted that Muldong has made great efforts to lead not just in our district but also in Yolo County. Muldong currently serves on the YCSBA executive committee. A Program Award is being awarded to the Wolfskill Career Readiness Academy and program leader Matt Moran. Moran has taken the lead in transitioning the Wolfskill Continuation High School to the new Wolfskill Career Readiness Academy program this school year. The Career Readiness Academy has not only been embraced by its students, but also by the community and local business owners who have offered support with career-related talks and opportunities. “We’re excited about what they have been doing at that level and are looking forward to what they will do,” Cutler said. Other Winters JUSD leaders being honored at the Excellence in Education Awards are: Classified School Employee of the Year Award – Child Nutrition: Susana Chavez de Duran, Winters JUSD Food Service. Salute to Educators being recognized: ~ Elementary Grades K-6 Teacher Excellence Certificate – Delia Espinoza, DBE Teacher. ~ Secondary Grades 7-12 Teacher Excellence Certificate – Andrea Hurst, Education Specialist. ~ Alternative Education School Teacher Excellence Certificate – Greg Wade, Wolfskill Career Readiness Academy Teacher. ~ Student Services Credentialed Excellence Certificate (counselors, psychologists, nurses, etc.) – Kristie Pappas, Speech Language, Pathologist Assistant. The YCSBA Excellence in Education Awards begin at 5 p.m. on April 29 in the Yolo County Office of Education Conference Center (1280 Santa Anita Ct., Suite 120) in Woodland.
