The Winters 14U boys AYSO soccer team has been working hard throughout their offseason and gearing up for another tournament on Saturday, March 12.

The 14U Lasso Football Club, coached by Stephen Montagna, went undefeated throughout their entire regular season and during their local and area tournaments. They made it to the Foster City Section Two tournament, continuing their streak, taking first place overall.

“Our 15 players were among the 31,000 players in all of the sections to advance that far,” said Montagna.

While the boys had many accomplishments throughout the season it was their exceptional sportsmanship that made them standout amongst other teams.

The Lasso Football Club is composed of several vastly talented players, many of whom have made huge accomplishments and impressive personal stats, deserving of a shout out.

Any one of the 15 boys on the Lasso Football club is deserving of a shoutout for their accomplishments and personal stats, however the defining characteristic of this team, and the reason they were so successful, is their ability and willingness to play as a unit.

“The boys always play with a true team effort in every sense, on and off the field,” said Montagna.

Since the regular season has ended the boys have advanced to the Section Western States Championship Tournament, where they will play teams from California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington state.

The tournament will be Saturday, March 12, and will be at the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Complex Center in Morgan Hill.

“This upcoming tournament is really going to put Lasso FC to the test, as we will have been a few months removed from the last tournament and the teams are sure to be playing at a much higher level,” said Montagna.

During the regular AYSO season the boys struggled with not being challenged on the field, which at times became frustrating for them. Lasso Football Club is excited and ready to see how they measure up to other teams at various skill levels. They are up for the challenge and will be working extremely hard to come out victorious.
