Winters Friends of the Library (WFoL) will host their annual gathering on Monday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Winters Community Library. Everyone is invited to join a social hour with hors d’oeuvres created by the Winters High School Culinary Arts class, a brief overview of WFoL activities over the past year and a talk by author, educator and speaker, Jeff Kubiak. The event will kick off the annual membership drive for the Friends of the Library. Memberships at the $50 or more level entitle the holder to discounts at participating Winters businesses. Kubiak is the principal of Nelda Mundy Elementary School. He taught for ten years as an elementary school teacher in grades four, five and six and has seven years of administrative experience. Kubiak strives to connect with students by bringing real world experiences to them, getting to know their names, engaging in lessons and play and becoming a part of the learning process with them. He’s always looked at education from a different lens: from someone who hated and struggled with school. Jeff vows to always do his best to help increase opportunities for all students to feel heard, noticed, celebrated, challenged and safe. Kubiak is the author of One Drop of Kindness. “Kindness is an imperative component that is missing from our society. If we can use this book, and understand the importance that kindness makes every day, I believe we can all make a difference. In schools especially, it is critical to embed kindness into everything we do, which will in turn, improve our school and community. I am hoping that this book will positively impact each person that reads it and hope they will spread the word,” Kubiak says. One Drop of Kindness will be available for purchase for $16. Winters Friends of the Library is an all-volunteer organization with the goal of supporting literacy and lifelong learning in our community. Members have fun while organizing community programs and events to raise funds that improve and expand our library services. Everyone is invited to join and/or volunteer. More information about WFoL and how to get involved is available at wfol.org. ]]>
