Soccer team celebrates success

The Winters High School women’s soccer team celebrated another successful season on Wednesday, March 9 at Hotel Winters.

Award recipients

Scholar/Athlete: Karina Echeverria

All-league: Joanna Cuevas, Echeverria, McKenna Clifford, Yarethzy Sanchez, Alondra Molina and Anahi Gutierrez

League Offensive Co-MVP: Sanchez (which was shared with an athlete from Live Oak) 

League Defensive MVP: Gutierrez

Coach’s awards:
Kim Olivas: Ava Skinner

Chip McKenna: Samantha Rameriz

Philip Hoag: Cuevas

Fatima Guzman: Isabella Mehl

The team also voted Sanchez as the Most Valuable Teammate for the season.

“We are so proud of these young women who worked so hard this season and supported each other throughout the season,” said Olivas. “We will continue to build the program and hope to be even more successful next year.”

Olivas said she and the other coaches John “Chip” McKenna, Phillip Hoag and Fatima Guzman have pride in the athletes growth on and off the field.

McKenna will be taking over as head coach next season and Olivas will be assisting him.
