Students perform in Poetry Jam/Slam

Winters students showed off creativity and recitation skills at the 12th annual Poetry Jam/Slam on Thursday, April 21.

Winters Joint Unified School District students from Waggoner Elementary, Shirley Rominger Intermediate, Winters Middle School and Winters High School gathered together since the last in-person poetry event in March 2020. The 2021 poetry event was hosted virtually due to the COVID pandemic.

Some elementary school students recited some of their favorite poems, while others wrote original pieces for the Poetry Jam session.

Jovany Aguilera, Liz Coman, Denise Cottrell and Sally Hirst were the judges for the Poetry Slam session featuring middle and high school students.

For WHS competitors, Allison Aguiar’s perfomance placed first. Following up in second was John Rominger, with third place secured by the duo of Logan Crabtree and Nathan Vigil.

For Winters Middle School competitors, Lola Barsotti placed first. She was followed by Jayden Clifford in second, Madeline Bruhn in third, with an Honorable Mention going to Henry Girimonte.
