On Wednesday, Aug. 18, members of the Winters FFA prepared and loaded their animals into the livestock trailer and headed over to the Yolo County Fairgrounds in Woodland to prepare for the 2021 Yolo County Fair.

Winters FFA brought 25 students to exhibit animals at the fair this year. Lambs and hogs were the first two types of livestock to be shown on Thursday. For lambs, Winters FFA was incredibly successful in the market class with each student who raised a lamb placing first or second in their specified class.

Emily Dodic placed second at the novice showmanship level and Eithyn Mellow placed fourth at the advanced level for showmanship. The success continued with hogs. Joel Barrera, Anthony Duran, Evan Davis and Eden Miller who all placed first in their respective market class.

For showmanship, Joe Aguiar placed first, along with Colton Brown in second place for novice level exhibitors. Steers were shown on Friday morning. Winters had one exhibitor participate in the beef show, Montana Maggenti.

Later that evening, Aguiar, Dodic and Brown had the opportunity to participate in Novice Master Showmanship because all of them placed either first or second in showmanship for their species. Large animal Master Showmanship is a round robin competition where each exhibitor is required to show each type of large animal including steers, goats, lambs, and hogs.

The auction was held the morning of Aug. 21 where animals sold for amazing prices. Winters FFA livestock exhibitors would like to thank and express their appreciation to all of those who attended the auction and supported their projects by purchasing their animals.

Winters FFA thanks the following businesses for purchasing Winters FFA animals: Colusa County Farm Supply, Western Stabilization, GT Material Trucking Solutions Inc., Yolo Show Pigs, Echo Global Logistics, Preserve Inc., Mariani Nut Company, Nutrient Ag Solution, Interstate Oil Co., Dunnigan Hills Hulling & Shelling, Double M Trucking and Mezger Trucking.
