Saturday, Jan. 18 – Central Park Gardens Rose Pruning Workshop A free workshop at the Davis Central Park Gardens on Jan. 18 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. will be held rain or shine in the garden area at the corner of Third and B Street in Davis. In case of rain, event will be inside the Bicycling Museum on the corner near the gardens. Experienced UCCE Master Gardeners will teach you about winter care of roses and other ornamental plants, and demonstrate pruning techniques. Tips will be discussed for garden management and dormant integrated pest management. Saturday, Jan. 11 – Esparto Library sponsors Free Pruning Workshop at Polestar Farm A great chance to see fruit tree pruning firsthand will be Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Polestar Farm located at 25491 County Rd. 21A in Esparto. Friends of the Esparto Library and UCCE Yolo County Master Gardeners sponsor this event from 10:30 a.m. to Noon. UCCE Master Gardeners Steve Radosevich and Karina Knight will demonstrate how to prune fruit trees, and provide tips on how to encourage fruiting and improve the health of your fruit trees. You will also learn about common fruit tree pests and how to control them. In the event of rain, the workshop will be held at the Esparto Library, 17065 Yolo Ave., Esparto. Saturday, Jan. 18 – Rose Pruning Workshop Learn pruning and care of roses at a free workshop on Jan. 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Woodland Community College, located at 2300 E. Gibson Rd., Woodland. UCCE Yolo County Master Gardeners Maryelle Mackenzie and Janet Branaman will discuss dormant season prunin gand care of your roses. You will learn the basic rose pruning techniques that encourage robust spring blooming and heathy plants. Sunday, Jan. 19 – Gardening Forum Do you have gardening questions? Join us at this free question an answer forum on Jan. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mary L. Stephens Library in Davis. The location is 315 14th Street, in the Children’s Area Conference Room. UCCE Master Gardeners will discuss winter projects, maintenance of your landscape, irrigation and mulching during the winter. Tips will be discussed on what and how to plant now. Saturday, Jan. 25 – Woodland Year-Round Kitchen Gardening A free workshop is on Jan. 25 from 11 a.m. to Noon in Woodland at the Woodland Library, Leake Room, located at 250 1st St. UCCE Master Gardeners will discuss what to harvest from you winter garden for your home kitchen. You will learn about fruit tree selection and planting, and proper care of garden tools. Sunday, Jan. 26 – Davis Year Round Kitchen Gardening Learn about stocking your kitchen with home-grown fruit, veggies and more! Join UCCE Master Gardeners on Jan. 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mary L. Stephens Library in Davis, 315 14th St. Meet in the Children’s Area Conference Room. This workshop covers winter planting and care of edible flowers, fruit trees, herbs and vegetables.
