Yolo County Master Gardeners March 2020 events

This month there are free gardening educational opportunities for the public hosted by the UCCE Yolo County Master Gardeners.

March 14 – Seeding summer vegetables On March 14, a free gardening workshop will be at Woodland Community College, in Building 400, located at 2300 E. Gibson Rd., in Woodland, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. UC Master Gardener Diana Gomez Neves will discuss selecting and caring for summer vegetables. March 14 – Grape pruning workshop The Friends of Esparto Regional Library will present a free workshop on March 14 from 10:30 a.m. to Noon at the Esparto Library located at 17065 Yolo Ave., Esparto. UC Master gardener Doug Mackenzie will present strategies for developing vines from recently purchased plants to fully developed vines. Concepts for pruning mature vines and developing vine structure, and crop control and pest management will be presented. March 15 – Gardening forum On March 15 stop by the Mary L. Stephens Davis Library at 315 E. 14th St, in the children’s area conference room, for a free question and answer session from 2 to 4 p.m. with UCCE Master Gardeners of Yolo County. Learn about planning spring garden projects, maintenance, what to plant now, and how mulching will keep your landscape thriving. March 21 – Worm composting Worms are your friends for gardening. On March 21 at the Winters Community Library, 708 Railroad Ave. from 10 to 11 a.m. learn how worm composting is easy, fun and education. UCCE Master Gardeners of Yolo County will show how to set up and maintain a compost bin at home. March 21 – Woodland year-round kitchen gardening On March 21 from 11 a.m. to Noon a free discussion is held at the Woodland Public Library in the Leake Room, located at 250 1st St. Learn about growing fruit, vegetables, edible flowers, herbs and more to harvest for your own enjoyment. March 22 – Davis year-round kitchen gardening A free monthly program is presented at the Mary L. Stephens Davis Library at 315 E. 14th St., Davis. Come by on March 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the children’s area conference room. UCCE Master Gardeners of Yolo County will discuss spring planting and care of edible flowers, fruit trees, herbs and vegetables. March 28 – Two free gardening workshops 1. Miniature Gardens Workshop: A workshop will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Central Park Gardens at Third & B Streets. UCCE Master Gardeners will show how to create a miniature garden and how to maintain these colorful and attractive gardens inside the home, on the patio or in the garden. 2. California Waterwise Garden: From 11 a.m. to Noon at Central Park Gardens learn how to design and select plants for a waterwise garden. UCCE Master Gardeners will discuss the best soil improvements and maintenance for this water-saving garden.
