This year students attending schools in Winters Joint Unified School District head back to classrooms on Wednesday, Aug. 14. Winters teachers and staff members are already busy prepping and getting ready for their return. The following is a list of important dates pertaining to the beginning of school, by school site. Winters State Preschool Center 200 Baker St. Winters State Preschool Center still has availability for the upcoming school year in the morning session, which runs from 8:10-11:30 a.m., and in the afternoon session, which runs from 12:10-3:30 p.m. Families interested in applying can pick up an application at the Winters JUSD Early Childhood Education Center office. Upcoming events for families enrolled at Winters State Preschool: Aug. 12 – Parent Meetings: English session 11-11:30 a.m., Spanish session 1-1:30 p.m. Aug. 13 – Orientation: Parents and children can meet their teachers and explore the classroom from 2-3 p.m. Waggoner Elementary School 500 Edwards St. Aug. 8 – Paper Parade at the Shirley Rominger Intermediate School campus: Waggoner families can find out their child’s teacher when they turn in their child’s emergency card from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 12 – TK/Kinder Meet the Teacher & Ice Cream Social: From 2-3 p.m. students in the transitional kinder and kindergarten programs can meet their teacher and enjoy an ice cream treat at this event hosted by the Winters Combined PTA. Aug. 13 – First and Second Grade Meet the Teacher: From 1-2 p.m. first and second graders can explore their new classrooms and meet their teachers. Shirley Rominger Intermediate School 502 Niemann St. Aug. 8 – Paper Parade: Rominger families can find out their child’s teacher when they turn in their child’s emergency card from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 13 – Meet Your Teacher: Students third through fifth grade can meet their teacher and explore their new classrooms from 2-3 p.m. Winters Middle School 425 Anderson Ave. Aug. 13 – Two events are happening at the middle school this day. ~ Cardinal Camp: Sixth graders and new students can tour the campus and learn more about WMS from leadership students from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Parents can attend a brief parent orientation and Q&A session during the student campus tour. ~ Schedule Pick Up: Seventh and eight grade students have an opportunity to pick up their school schedules at the WMS office from 5-6 p.m. Aug. 14: Chromebook Check-Out: Students accompanied by a parent or guardian are able to check out a Chromebook and purchase Chromebook insurance. The check-out window breakdown is eight grade 1:30-3 p.m.; seventh grade 2:30-4 p.m.; sixth grade 3:30-5 p.m. Winters High School 101 Grant Ave. The WHS office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. as of this Monday if families need to go in or call with questions. Aug. 9 – Ninth Grade Link Crew: Incoming freshmen will meet their Link Crew leaders and learn more about WHS from 8 a.m. to Noon. Attendees will meet at 8 a.m. in the WHS gym. Aug. 12 – Two events are happening at the high school this day. ~ Registration & Orientation: All students will turn in their school packet paperwork and get their class schedules at the WHS gym. The registration time frame breakdown is as follows: ninth grade 8:30-10 a.m.; tenth grade 10-11 a.m.; eleventh grade 11 a.m.-12 p.m.; twelfth grade 1-2 p.m. ~ Family Meetings & Orientation: Families have an opportunity to learn more about the upcoming school year and will meet in the Margaret Parsons Room at the Winters Community Library Monday evening. The session time frame breakdown is as follows: families of new students 6-6:45 p.m.; Spanish session 6:45-7:30 p.m.; English session 7:30-8:15 p.m. Wolfskill Career Readiness Academy 219 Edwards St. Aug. 14: Students should bring back their completed packets that were mailed home to the first day of school.
