The Winters Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees honored outstanding middle school students and said goodbye to student board representatives and retirees at their second-to-last meeting of the 2018-2019 school year, May 16. Winters High School seniors Devin Brown and Javier Guzman were lauded by board members for their excellent attendance and speaking on behalf of the students before they gave short speeches. “I learned a lot from this. I learned to speak better in public, to be able to organize my time and make a difference for our school; and that even though everyone else doesn’t agree with everything you do, you’re working your butts off to make this district a better place,” Brown said. “This student board representative position I never would have seen myself in two years ago, but I’m glad I took the chance and I was able to be part of this amazing board with you amazing trustees,” Guzman said. “I hope I was able to make you guys laugh.” Winters Middle School students Jonathan Hughes, Christian Hernandez and Ava Skinner received honors for excellence in academics and sports. Retiring Winters JUSD employees Patti Warren, Mike Challender, Leslie Klimper, Mary Stewart and Kim Olivas also had time to bid farewell after years of service to the community.]]>
