Construction is nearly complete on key components of the phase 1 and phase 2 projects at Winters High School. The new facilities will be finished in time to welcome students back for the 2019/20 school year in a few weeks. On August 6, 2019, the Winters Joint Unified School District’s (www.wintersjusd.org) Board of Trustees, administration and staff are celebrating with a grand opening at the school. The campus is undergoing a multi-phase transformation to improve indoor and outdoor learning environments to align with the District’s standards for 21st Century education. Dr. Todd Cutler, Superintendent, is excited to see the first phases of the project come to fruition. “By passing Measures R, D, and P, our community has demonstrated a commitment to our students’ education. The opening of these new classrooms is just a part of that commitment to furthering the quality of the learning environments for our students.” The projects that will be unveiled include a new career technical education (CTE) center and a new classroom building. Funded by Bond Measures J, D and P (approved in 2014, 2016 and 2018, respectively) and State Proposition 51, the facilities support collaboration and a variety of teaching and learning methodologies, which results in improved student performance. The CTE Center is a campus gateway. Located at the front of the campus, the 9,000 square foot building serves as a new entry—a landmark for campus visitors and a hub for student engagement and socialization. The complex includes a fabrication lab and features learning spaces that support programs in the culinary arts, science and technology. The new structures are signature components of the campus transformation, as they set the tone for the new architectural vocabulary being implemented at the site. The use of full brick veneer and cast bronze medallions pay tribute to the history of Winters. Construction is expected to continue at the campus over the next few years, as additional phase 2 and phase 3 work is completed. Upcoming modernization and new construction work consists of converting existing arts labs into a student union/cafeteria, and the existing weight room will become a music wing. Improvements to the administration spaces are also slated. Winters Joint Unified School District’s design and construction partners are BCA Architects (architect of record), Van Pelt Construction Services (construction manager), Broward Builders (phase 1 general contractor) and Landmark Construction (phase 2 and 3 general contractor). The grand opening celebration is August 6 at 6:00 pm at Winters High School – 101 Grant Avenue, Winters, CA 95694. The event is open to the public.]]>
